This blog is about some of my passions in life (going out to eat, cooking and watching films) This blog is a way to document these pleasures so that I can remember these great experiences and repeat them with others. The FULL TREATMENT refers to my style of reviewing films. Anything that is mind-blowingly good and must be shared with others receives the FULL TREATMENT.

LYON RESTO LE BEC
I finally went out to a real restaurant with Danny on the 16th of December. It was my last day of classes before the holiday break. This trip to Le Bec was well worth it. The Menu dropped down to 85 euros(it used to be around the 130 mark) and we drank a bottle of White Voignier for 30 after having glasses of the stuff for an apperatif. In retrospect, we should have started with the bottle and then finish it before the cheese plates came out at which point we could have switched to glasses of Red (20/20 hindsight). The food was delcious and by the end of the meal I was stuffed. (stay away from the bread at all costs because you'll never make it to the 2nd dessert).

This place was recommended by a foodie friend of mine. It has a nice calm decor and the food is hearty but the protions are not huge, (am I contradicting myself?) the meal was pretty good. I had the soupe aux pois cassés and after the joue de veaux au vin rouge avec des gnocchis (amazingly tender). I waltzed out of there after having a great class of red (Provence 1999) and a decent coffee for 25 euros. a bit pricey but then again I'm in paris. apperently this place was just reviewed in the NYTimes. you have to reserve for both dinner and lunch. Belleville is a great place to explore. it is right next to a sort of china town and around the bottom of the hill it is pretty artsy with cool scultures and art gallaries and printshops. The parc at the top of the hill is pretty amazing and offers a mind blowing view of Mont Martre from this sort of Italien gazeebo on the top of a butte

thai coconut chicken
this is a recipe I have dabbled with over the past few years. I created it from my own imagination and it took on an indian feel using cardemom and cinnemon but I have gone back to its thai roots (with a little help of online recipes). here is what I have
1 liter of water
1 liter of coconut milk
2 onions thinly sliced
one clove of garlic minced
10 drumsticks with skin
a ton of carrots thinly sliced
10 kaffir lime leaves
3 sticks of lemon grass cut into 3 pieces
2 big teaspoons of green curry paste
2 big pieces of galanga (about 5cm each) peeled and thinly sliced
3 teaspoons of salt
ground pepper to your liking
stirfry onions in sesame oil in a big pressure cooker. add water/coconut milk/chicken (with skin)/carrots/all seasonings and pressure cook for 10 minutes. while this is going, make rice on the side and sprinkle with finely cut mint leaves
DO NOT ADD
soy sauce/fish sauce
ginger
this recipe can be served to just about anyone. Add more green paste if you like it spicy.
divide the bowl/plate in 2 and have one side as the rice and the other as the soup and I mean SOUP
possible things to add
sweet red pepers (probably cooked on the side so as to not fall about in the pressure cooker
different vegetable-green beans, leeks, etc
